• Extension – 1 additional year beyond the maximum period

To be eligible for admission to the PhD program, applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
Option 1: Master of Philosophy (MPhil) A two-year Master of Philosophy (Research) degree in a relevant subject.
Option 2: Master of Arts (MA) A two-year Master of Arts (Research) degree in a relevant subject.
Option 3: Two-Year Master of Science (MSc) A two-year Master of Science (Course Work and Research) degree in a relevant subject, including the successful completion of a minimum of 2 qualifying papers.
Option 4: One-Year MSc or MA A one-year Master of Science or Master of Arts (Course work and Research) degree in a relevant subject, including the successful completion of a minimum of 4 qualifying papers as approved by the PGIAR Board of Studies.

🏛️ For Museology: Archaeology, History, Anthropology, Tourism, Fine Arts, Science (Chemistry, Biology, Botany).
🏺 For Heritage Studies: Archaeology, History, Art History, Anthropology, Architecture, Science (Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology), Engineering, Technology, Management.
🎨 For Art History: Archaeology, Design, Anthropology, Architecture, Literature, Languages, Sociology, Fine Arts, History.
Pre-requisites: None.
Initial Registration: Applicants without an MPhil (those applying under Options 2, 3, or 4) are typically registered initially as MPhil leading to PhD.
Qualifying Papers: If you are required to sit for qualifying papers, you will need to register for specified course units offered in the PGIAR’s Postgraduate Diploma or MSc programs.
These mandatory fees must be settled at the beginning of the application and enrollment process.
Application Fee: Rs. 2,500 (International: USD 20)
Registration Fee: Rs. 5,000 (International: USD 25)
Total Course Fee: Rs. 425,000 (International: USD 3,500)
Payment Plan (4 Installments):
First Installment: Rs. 110,000 — Payable at registration.
Second Installment: Rs. 110,000 — Payable before the start of the 2nd academic year.
Third Installment: Rs. 105,000 — Payable before the start of the 3rd academic year.
Fourth Installment: Rs. 100,000 — Payable before the end of the 3rd academic year.
This discounted rate is exclusively for permanent employees of the Central Cultural Fund (CCF), Department of Archaeology, and Department of National Museum.
Total Discounted Fee: Rs. 375,000
Installment Plan:
First Installment: Rs. 100,000 — Payable at registration.
Second Installment: Rs. 100,000 — Payable before the start of the 2nd academic year.
Final Balance: Rs. 175,000 — Payable before submitting the final thesis.
⚠️ Important Notice: If your employer/institute is paying the fees on your behalf, the special concession does not apply. The institute is obligated to pay a total course fee of Rs. 400,000.
