Master of Philosophy (Mphil) | MP
The main objective of the MPhil courses is to train candidates who can envision an independent research and writing career without supervision in one of the specializations offered at PGIAR.

Duration: Minimum - 2 year, Maximum - 4 year, Extension - 1 year beyond the max. period

Number of Credits: 60 credits
- Special Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject with a second class upper or above, and or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board of Studies/Board of Management/ University of Kelaniya;
- Two-year Master of Arts Degree (Research or Taught or Coursework and Research) in a relevant subject;
- Two-year Master of Science Degree (Course Work and Research) in a relevant subject;
Note 1: The relevant subjects are as follows:
For Archaeology: archaeology, history, sociology, geology, geography; geomorphology, ecology; palaeoecology; pedology, chemistry, botany, zoology; for Museology: archaeology, history, anthropology, tourism, fine arts, science (chemistry, biology, botany); for Heritage: archaeology, history, art history, anthropology, architecture, science (chemistry, physics, botany, zoology), engineering, technology, management; for Art History: archaeology, design, anthropology, architecture, literature, Languages, sociology, fine arts, history
2. The MPhil Degree, consists of no taught courses. The number of credits earned from satisfactory completion of the MPhil thesis are 60.
3 Completion of Field Experience Period of 30 days.

The above fee can be paid in three installments. The first installment of Rs. 110,000/= should be paid with the registration. The remaining amounts Rs. 110,000/= must be paid before the commencement of the second academic year & Rs.105, 000/= must be paid before end of the second academic year.
*For the candidates who are currently working at permanent positions at Central Cultural Fund, Department of Archaeology and Department of National Museum are applicable to follow up below payment structure.
Master of Philosophy [Research] Rs. 275,000.00[100000+87500+87500]
The above fee can be paid in three installments. The first installment of Rs. 100,000/= should be paid with the registration. The 2nd installment Rs. 87,500/= must be paid before the commencement of the second academic year. The 3rd installment of Rs. 87,500/= should be paid before submitting the thesis.
*Note: If the respective Institute pays on behalf of the student they are obliged to pay the full course fee of Rs.325, 000/=.
