Diploma Certificate Convocation – 2023/2024 Batch

The Diploma Certificate Convocation for the 2023/2024 batch of the Diploma in Archaeology and Cultural Tourism, conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, was held on 25th April 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.

This diploma program, specifically designed for professionals in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry—particularly tourist guides—aimed to equip participants with formal and up-to-date knowledge on Sri Lankan culture and cultural heritage sites. The primary objective of the course was to contribute directly to the country's economic development through improved professional capacity in the cultural tourism sector.

 

The convocation ceremony was held under the patronage of Senior Professor Gamini Adikari and under the guidance of Senior Professor Priyani Paranagama, Acting Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology. Diploma certificates were awarded to the successful participants who had completed the program and are now prepared to serve as informed ambassadors of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.

 

 

 

 

 

 

PGIAR Student Wins Five Prestigious Gold Medals at University of Kelaniya Convocation

The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR), University of Kelaniya, proudly announces that Ven. Aludeniye Subodhi Thero (PD1213148) of Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology in Archaeology has been awarded five prestigious gold medals of

·       Senaka Bandaranayake Gold medal for Environmental Archaeology

·       Senarath Paranavithana Gold medal for Epigraphy and Numismatics

·       Sir Alexander Cunningham Gold medal for Archaeological research thought (Research Colloquium)

·       Siran Deraniyagala Gold medal for Pre and Proto History

·       Lord Colin Renfrew Gold medal for Academic Excellence in Archaeology

For the 2021/2022 Academic year at the 147th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya, held on 12th December 2024 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. This remarkable achievement marks an extraordinary milestone in the academic history of the Institute.

The gold medals were generously sponsored by Dr. Nadeeshani Wanigarathna, Course Director and Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Science & Engineering, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Chelmsford, UK.

The Institute deeply appreciates her contribution towards encouraging academic excellence in the field of Archaeology.

The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya.
