Postgraduate Diploma In Archaeology
The PGIAR has been offering the Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology since 1989. The main objective of the Diploma is to provide a learning platform for any person with any academic background to enter the field of archaeology and related subjects. As such the Diploma functions as a conversion program for those whose academic background is not archaeology. The main intellectual objective of the program is to train the interested candidates academically ready to undertake higher-level academic and research training in archaeology.

Lecturing: On Classroom & Distance Learning
1. Bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized university, or
2. Professional or any other such qualification recognized by the Board of Management of PGIAR, and approved by the Senate of the University of Kelaniya. Following qualifications can be considered under this provision for admission to Postgraduate Diploma Programs of PGIAR: 1) Four year Higher National Diploma (HND) offered by the Ministry of Education; 2) Praacheena Panditha Avasana and 3) Attorney at Law qualification from the Law College of Sri Lanka, or a postgraduate diploma in any discipline from a recognized institution.

*Students who are at university final year expecting to face final year examination before March 2025 also can apply but need to submit results sheet before June 2025.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology consists of 7 compulsory Course Units and a compulsory field
experience period of 20-days
Semester 1
PDAR 51013 Ways of knowing and narrating the past/ compulsory/ 3 credits
PDAR 51023 Historical archaeology / compulsory/ 3 credits
PDAR 51033 History of art and architecture of South Asia / compulsory/ 3 credits
PDAR 51043 Environmental Archaeology / compulsory/ 3 credits
Semester 2
PDAR 52053 Pre and Proto Historic Archaeology / compulsory/ 3 credits
PDAR 52063 Epigraphy and Numismatics/ compulsory/ 3credits
PDAR 5207C Research Colloquium/compulsory/12 credits

The course fee can be paid in three installments. The first installment of Rs. 40,000 should be paid with the registration. The remaining amount Rs. 30,000 & Rs.30, 000 must be paid before examination of Duruthu and vesak semester.
