  11. The archaeological dating methods
  12. Material Analysis
  13. Understanding the past behaviour

Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate communication skills in World Archaeology

Method of Teaching and Learning: Lectures/Tutorials/Discussion Classes/Presentation and Field Lessons.

Time: 50 Hours

  2. History of Archaeological Research in Sri Lanka
  3. Archaeology of ancient city centres of Sri Lanka 
  4. Themes in Sri Lankan Archaeology
  5. Art and Architecture of Sri Lanka 

Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate communication skills in Sri Lankan Archaeology

Method of Teaching and Learning: Lectures/Tutorials/Discussion Classes/Presentation and Field Lessons.

Assessment: End-of-course written examination of MCQ and /or structural Essays and/or Assignments.

 

Institutions of archaeology and heritage

Course Code: CCAR 0203

Time: 50 Hours

Course Content:

  1. Institutions in Archaeology
  2. Legislation on Archaeology
  3. Nature of Heritage property
  4. Conservation of Monuments and Sites in Sri Lanka
  5. Major Archaeological Projects in Sri Lanka 

Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate communication skills in Archaeology and heritage

Method of Teaching and Learning: Lectures/Tutorials/Discussion Classes/Presentation and Field Lessons.

Assessment: End-of-course written examination of MCQ and /or structural Essays and/or assignments.

Registration fee:  Rs. 1500                Total Course Fee: Rs. 35,000 

Payment Methods:
1. Full course payment paid at once will reward free PGIAR library access
2. Three instalments wise:

           1st- Rs. 10,000, 2nd - Rs.15,000, 3rd- Rs.10,000
3. Monthly Installment wise: Downpayment Rs. 10,000 and Rs.5,000 x 5 (Monthly)

The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR) was established on the 1st January 1986, by order dated 18th December 1985, under section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 by the University Grants Commission. The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya. It is the prime institution for postgraduate studies and research in archaeology and subjects related to archaeology in the country.
