The tourism sector in Sri Lanka is currently expanding quickly following the covid outbreak. The majority of visitors to Sri Lanka are more interested in exploring the country's historical sites. In order to satisfy them, it is crucial to guide these tourists effectively and attractively. Here, it is essential to go beyond the conventional description of the historical place and explain the locations with a thorough understanding of Sri Lanka's archaeological legacy, as well as engage the audience in discussion. For that reason, it is crucial that tour guides and everyone else working in the industry have an accurate and up-to-date understanding of Sri Lanka's archaeological heritage and historical context. Recognizing this current need, the Diploma in Archeology and Cultural Tourism course was introduced in 2019 by the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology as a state university that conducts research and teaching on archeology and cultural heritage in Sri Lanka.
