This Gold Medal honours Lord Colin Renfrew, one of the most influential archaeologists of the modern era, whose work revolutionised archaeological theory, scientific dating, and cognitive archaeology. Renfrew’s contributions include the development of processual and post-processual debates, the application of scientific methods such as radiocarbon dating, and innovative approaches to understanding ancient cognition and symbolism.
The medal is awarded for overall academic excellence in archaeology, reflecting Renfrew’s holistic vision of archaeology as both a scientific and humanistic discipline.
A student who obtained A+ passes (not less than 85%) for all subjects (PGD in Archaeology). In case more than one student is eligible for the award, select the student with the highest overall total marks for all subjects.
The Gold Medal shall be awarded annually at the General Convocation of the University, upon the recommendation of the Board of Studies, the Board of Management and approval of the Senate.
