This Gold Medal is named in honour of Dr. Roland Silva, Sri Lanka’s foremost authority on heritage conservation and cultural management. As Commissioner-General of Archaeology, Roland Silva played a decisive role in safeguarding Sri Lanka’s archaeological heritage and shaping national conservation policy. His work bridged scholarship, practice, and international heritage standards.
The medal recognises excellence in Heritage Studies, reflecting Dr. Roland Silva’s lifelong commitment to conservation ethics and sustainable heritage management.
A student with the highest marks (not less than 75% of the marks with A or A+ Pass) for ‘Managing Heritage’ course unit – MSc in Archaeology. In case more than one student is eligible for the award, select the student with the highest overall total marks for all subjects. The eligible recipient shall be presented with the gold medal during the graduation ceremony at which the MSc in Archaeology degree is conferred to him/her.
The Gold Medal shall be awarded annually at the General Convocation of the University, upon the recommendation of the Board of Studies, the Board of Management and approval of the Senate.
